After soldering new cap and testing problem was solved,  clock can be unplugged and after powering back time is still counting.

How did you know which capacitor to buy? We are attempting the same repair but don’t know what to search for

They are called “super capacitor”. Check for same voltage and similar capacity. It capacity will be larger You will get longer back-up time, if smaller – shorter – so don’t be afraid to chose one that is cheaper and more available. I believe i ordered mine from aliexpress.
